Lots of news from OPI

News!  Newsy news!  I know it seems too early to “think spring” (hey, I haven’t even scoped out all the fall and holiday polishes yet!) but OPI just gave us a peek of things to come on their Facebook page.

First up, the Euro Centrale Collection for spring:

Shade names (from top to bottom, left to right): Suzi’s Hungary AGAIN!, OY-Another Polish Joke!, Vant to Bite My Neck?, A Woman’s Prague-ative, I Saw…You Saw…We Saw…Warsaw, My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours!, Can’t Find My Czechbook, Polka.com, Hands Off My Kielbasa, OPI…Eurso Euro, My Vampire is Buff, You’re Such A BudaPest.

Once again, the names are IMHO too long and too silly, but that’s pretty much OPI’s calling card with these collections.  A different look:

Do you see what I see?  No red and almost no pink.  THUD.

But wait, there’s more!  The “Liquid Sand” look will be part of the upcoming Mariah Carey Collection:

The Mariah Carey set will have eight colors total and will be released in January 2013.  This rough matte “sand” look is what we also saw in the preview I posted in August of China Glaze’s Texture Collection.  Guess since crackle is passé the polish world needs to convince us we need a new fad.

Though I don’t of course have any of these new sandy polishes, I doubt I will be a fan.  I like polish to brighten my hands, and somehow I suspect that dull, dry-looking, bumpy, rough polish will not flatter my over-50 dull, dry-looking, bumpy, rough skin.  OK, maybe my hands aren’t that bad, but I know perfectly well my skin is not as bright and clear as it was thirty years ago.

But am I tempted to at least try it?  Yeah, I am.  I’m a victim of marketing and the urge to try new things.

For a great closeup look at all eight shades in the MC set, both in the bottle and swatched on a nail plate, look here at BeautyGeeks.  (I don’t think these are official OPI photos so I can’t in good conscience re-post them here.)

What do you think of the spring shades and the “Liquid Sand” look?  I’m attracted to the light periwinkle blue of You’re Such a BudaPest, and while I think Get Your Number is pretty, I’m fairly sure I already own a similar blue glitter.  Or two.  Or three.
