As always, read the fine print.  You can’t combine codes.  How else can I say this?  Combining codes won’t work.  Codes, combined they cannot be.  Believe me, with every single promo Zoya does — and they are the best and have them frequently — someone always asks, “Can I combine codes?”

I have two of the three polishes and have reviewed them in the past.  Don’t have Storm, the black, but have read and seen nothing but awesomeness about it.  Here are my reviews of Amy and Mimi.

Great news is that I found out yesterday that I am getting media samples of the new Winter Matte Velvets, so hopefully early next week I’ll have those reviewed and compared to previous Matte Velvets.  This Halloween Trio promo is good through 10/31, so if you want to wait for my review to place an order (although you certainly don’t have to!) that’s an idea.

Zoya, you rock!  Or should I say Zoya, you Monster Mash!

I had wondered — then forgot — about these three shades.  We first saw them shown this past spring at New York Fashion Week, remember?  I liked most of this spring’s Naturel Satins Collection but thought these darker shades looked yummy.

As always, read all the fine print for such tidbits as the code to use, where it ships (and where it won’t), dates, and so forth.  You can’t combine coupons/codes.  You can’t cancel your order and then hope to use the code again some other time.  Be a savvy shopper.

This savvy shopper is finally going to buy some of the Naked Manicure polishes, because you have to spend $25 on something to get the free NYFW Satins, right?  And note that if you spend over $30 you also get the Satin Seal Top Coat FREE.  Oh yeah.  I plan to get the Pink Perfector, the Lavender Perfector, and the Naked Base Coat, ’cause those are the ones I’ve had my eye on for weeks.

You certainly don’t have to buy Naked Manicure items.  Perhaps now’s the time to get some of the new Focus and Flair colors.  And hey, maybe you want all this free-with-purchase stuff but can’t quite spend $30.  I hear ya.  Go in with a friend, a sister, a mom, a daughter, a co-worker.

If you want to see swatches of the NYFW Satin trio, look here at blogger Dull Like Glitter.  But this blogger says Dagmara is the light dusty purple and Antoinette is the dark teal blue.  Zoya says the names/colors listed in their promo are correct.

Happy National Lipstick Day!

Posted on

In the parade that is silly and obscure holidays — National Peanut Butter Fudge Day, anyone? (November 20th, if you’re curious) — today is National Lipstick Day.  How did you celebrate it, did you wear lipstick?  Buy it?  Covet it?

If you need another fix, here are some quick swatches of a quality lipstick that was my favorite price, free.  A few weeks ago I got a postcard in the ol’ snail mail from Ulta.  One of my member benefits was that if I took the card into an Ulta store, I’d get a free Clinique lipstick.

Yep, that was it.  Didn’t have to buy anything, didn’t have to take a survey, nothing.  And it was a full-sized lipstick, not a miniscule travel size.  Let’s look!

My Ulta sales associate reached into her Box o’ Freebies and pulled out the shade All Heart.  There were other colors but I was very content with All Heart.  I no longer see it on Ulta’s web site, but it’s from the relatively inexpensive line called Long Last Lipstick and comes in the familiar Clinique light green case.

All Heart case

All Heart label

I don’t see the weight marked on the label, and as you can see it’s stamped “Not For Individual Sale.”  However, I think this line of lipsticks usually costs about $8 U.S.

All Heart is a beautiful shade of darker-than-pink-lighter-than-red, which I love.  It has a very faint shimmer that keeps it from being a plain creme, but it’s by no means glittery.  What I love most about it is how it feels.  When I was applying it, it felt so light that if I hadn’t been looking in a mirror, I wouldn’t have been able to tell any of it was getting on my lips.  Honest, it’s that weightless, yet the pigmentation is great.  It wore well for hours (went out to dinner so I eventually wiped most of it off) and left a very light stain after removal.  It has virtually no smell or taste.

Here’s an All Heart swatch under indirect outdoor light, with the flash, and under artificial indoor light:

All Heart outd

All Heart flash

All Heart indoor

Can you see how different it looks in each light?  And even though that last lighting makes my skin looks like I have malaria, the lipstick still looks great!

Zoya Matte Velvet review — Part 3

Posted on

Disclosure:  These polishes were provided by Zoya for review.

Today I have the last two polishes from Zoya’s re-release of their Matte Velvet Collection.  Check Part 1 for swatches of Posh and Dovima and Part 2 for swatches of Veruschka and Savita.

Zoya_Matte_Velvet_1200_RGB

Zoya_Matte_Velvet_GROUP_RGB_2

I was really excited to try Harlow; it’s been a “lemming” — a badly-wanted, hard-to-find polish — of mine for years.  And Loredana looked pretty too.

The formula of Harlow was excellent with two coats giving very good coverage, but Loredana seemed the thinnest of the six Matte Velvets to me.  I used three coats of it.

All photos are under indirect outdoor light with no flash.  Harlow and then Loredana:

Harlow

Loredana

Harlow is a plum pink and Loredana is a dark gunmetal gray.  Both have sparkles that are much more evident with a clear shiny top coat:

Harlow w tc

Loredana w tc

Both look very chic matte and are beautiful with the top coat as well.  As I’ve mentioned, one way to wear the Matte Velvets is to apply them as-is and then in a few days add a clear top coat to prolong your manicure and give them a different look.

Of all six Matte Velvets, my favorites are Harlow and Dovima worn matte, and I love all of them with the shiny top coat.

*************************************************

And now, FUN STUFF, a giveaway!  I’m just going to be posting this here on the blog, not as a Rafflecopter giveaway on my Facebook page.

Since Zoya generously gave me all six Matte Velvets but I already owned four, I’m giving away the brand new, unopened, full-sized bottles of Posh (red), Dovima (black), Veruschka (green), and Savita (purple).  I’ll have two prizes of two bottles each. You can win either a “Halloween set” of black and purple or a “Christmas set” of red and green, how’s that?

Here are the rules:

  • Add a comment to this page saying you would like to enter the giveaway.
  • You must be a registered follower of this blog.  New followers welcome.
  • One entry per person.
  • State which set you’d like if you win, either black/purple or red/green.  Do not enter twice for both, please.
  • Shipping address within the continental United States only due to postal regulations.
  • All other giveaway rules apply.

I’ll randomly pick two names early next week.  Good luck!

Disclosure:  These polishes were provided by Zoya for review.

UPDATE:  Contest is closed and I have emailed the two winners chosen by a random number generator.  Congratulations  to C.O. and L. F. and thanks to all for entering!

Zoya Matte Velvet review — Part 2

Posted on

Disclosure:  Identical polishes were provided by Zoya for review.

Hope you enjoyed Part 1 yesterday with swatches of Posh and Dovima.   Please see that post for the background info on the re-release of Zoya’s Matte Velvet Collection.

Zoya_Matte_Velvet_1200_RGB

Zoya_Matte_Velvet_GROUP_RGB_2

Today I have the green Veruschka and the purple Savita Matte Velvets to show you.

Again, the formula of the polishes was excellent with two coats giving very good coverage.  It seemed to me that Veruschka was a little thicker than the other three polishes.  Thin coats that dry more quickly definitely work better with mattes.

All photos are under indirect outdoor light with no flash.  Veruschka and then Savita:

Veruschka

Savita - Copy

Veruschka is a dark emerald or hunter green, and Savita is a blue-toned purple with the slightest hink of pink sparkle.  Both colors, unfortunately, seemed to make my skin look redder than usual.

With a  clear shiny top coat:

Veruschka w tc

Savita w tc - Copy

I don’t feel the clear top coat changes the colors at all.  I like both these polishes but am not crazy about them on my skin tone.  My favorite of the looks shown today is Veruschka with the shiny top coat.

Thanks to the generosity of Zoya, I will be receiving media samples of all six Matte Velvet polishes.  Since I already own four of them, I will be holding a giveaway for the new bottles of those colors, perhaps two prizes of two bottles each.  Stay tuned next week for that!

Don’t forget the current promotion from Zoya.
