Go Through the Looking Glass with Alice and OPI

Posted on

New collection of brights for 2016 from OPI!  Called Alice Through the Looking Glass, it’s a tie-in with the new Tim Burton movie from Disney which is a sequel, I suppose, to Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.  Trailer looks…. creepy.

I prefer my old book with the original Tenniel illustrations, thanks.

But… polish!  Everything2K has a quick writeup and shows this picture

Alice TTLG from OPI nail plate

Those three white ones on the left are blank, and there are nine polishes:

The I’s Have It
Oh My Majesty!
What’s the Hatter with You?
I’m Gown for Anything!
Fearlessly Alice
A Mirror Escape
Having a Big Head Day
Mad for Madness Sake
What Time Isn’t It?

I think the shimmery gold A Mirror Escape look pretty but the others underwhelm me.  We live in an ocean of red cremes already.

Release is tentatively scheduled for May 1st to precede the movie’s summer premiere.

Spring 2016 news — House of Colour collection from China Glaze

Posted on

My new Zoya Whispers Collection isn’t here yet, so let’s peek at some other late winter/early spring news.  China Glaze’s big spring set is called House of Colour.

CG House of Colour

I see a motley crew of cremes, shimmers, and glitters in a variety of colors — royal blue, pale yellow, fuchsia, tan, coral and more.  They should be in stores soon and are already available online, such as at Ulta.

For a really good look at all of them, check out THIS video review from Karina Kaboom.  The color names are (not in the same order as the bottles shown):

Come Rain or Shine
In the Near Fuchsia
Girls Just Want to Have Sun
Glitter Me This
Let’s Chalk About It
Sorry I’m Latte
Chrome Is Where the Heart Is
Shut the Front Door
Pink or Swim
About Layin’ Out
Moonlight the Night
Don’t Be Shallow

If you’re tired of the holidays, winter, snow, and so on, some spring news is always welcome.

What’s old is new — RETRO REVIVAL Collection from Essie

Posted on

Big news from Essie!  Per their Facebook page:  35 years. 6 iconic shades and one ‘Starry Starry Night’.  Introducing the Retro Revival collection celebrating 35 years of Essie.

Essie Retro set

Colors are:

  • Starry Starry Night
  • Life of the Party
  • Bikini with a Martini
  • Sequin Sash
  • Birthday Suit
  • Cabana Boy

and will be available in early January.  You can see more of the set at Essie.com and in this fab retro video on YouTube.

I didn’t even know about Essie decades ago, but I’ve heard that Starry Starry Night is so sought-after that people are willing to sell their firstborn to snag a bottle on eBay.  Now we won’t have to.

Have a great weekend!

Zoya Nail Polish is the world’s leading brand of nail polish. Known as the “Healthy New Color of Fashion” Zoya is always a step ahead of fashion trend with the longest wearing natural nail formula. From creams, mattes, satins, metallic and texture finishes there are over 300 shades to choose from.

Please note the limited hours of 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Eastern Time.  These are NOT all-day sales.  The one that really stands out to me is today’s $5 off all Matte, Satin, and PixieDust shades.  Zoya recently said on their Facebook page that the PixieDusts are being phased out and when they’re gone, they’re gone and will not continue to be produced.  The textured fad is past but I thought a lot of the sparkly PixieDusts were very pretty.

So dust off your wish lists and gift lists, and enjoy!

Hello Kitty 2016 from OPI

Posted on

I presume the Hello Kitty multi-billion-dollar-generating Japanese character needs no introduction.  It’s been around since the ’70s, but unlike much 1970s culture, it’s not one of my favorite things.  Don’t dislike it, just not crazy about it.

At any rate, OPI is coming out with a 12-polish Hello Kitty themed set for early 2016.  Exact release date unknown but I’ve read early January.

Heavy on the pink, no surprise there.

Blogger The Nailasaurus has a preview and swatches of six of the shades HERE.  Another sneak peek from BeautyGeeks HERE.  And more swatches of the same six colors by Really Ree HERE.

Cute, but, not being a particular HK fan, nothing grabs me.  Colors are pretty yet nothing new.  If you’re a Hello Kitty lover or know someone who is, though, have fun!

NEWS FLASH!! Pantone Color of the Year for 2016 is…..

Posted on

…. drum roll, please……

TWO colors!  Yes, it’s twins!

Pantone colors of the year 2016

I am in color heaven.  Rose Quartz appears to be one of my favorite pinks, a peachy shade, and Serenity one of my favorite blues, slightly periwinkle.   *** swoons ***

Now, I am not a slave to fashion and I don’t live my life strictly according to Pantone.  But if there is going to be a tsunami of nail polishes, clothes, and other fun stuff in these colors, then I am so there.

Read all about the colors, the reasoning behind the decisions, and so forth via The Wall Street Journal.  (The WSJ, really?  Yes, really.  Fashion is big money in the business world.)

More spring news. Yep.

Posted on

I know, I know, it’s not even Thanksgiving.  The other day when I was in Wally World they were playing Christmas music already.  I don’t mind seeing Christmas things now but I’m not ready to listen to carols and “Jingle Bell Rock.”

So here I’ll make things worse by showing you spring polish news.  Hey, I hate to be scooped by other bloggers too much!

Orly’s Spring 2016 collection is called Melrose.

Orly Melrose banner

Here’s the official blurb:

Take a stroll down the famous and funky indie shopping mecca that stretches from Silver Lake to Santa
Monica.  Here you’ll find designer couture, funky indie shops, restaurants, and one of L.A.’s most popular
flower shops.

An acid mixture of bubble gum, coral, raspberry and minty turquoise softened by pinkish nudes in a
variety of effects from matte to ultra-glossy, and foamy or gelatinous translucents.

Um, “acid mixture” and “gelatinous translucents” sound a little gross.  Why does the word “gel” sound so much better than “gelatinous”?  Anyway, color names are:

Beautifully Bizarre (pearl shimmer)
Vintage (creme)
Trendy (shimmer)
Feel the Funk (holographic glitter)
Hip and Outlandish (creme)
Window Shopping (creme)

Orly Melrose dots

Very spring-like!  I love all the pinks.  The greens are pretty too but may not suit my skin tone.

Polishes will be available separately, in a full set, and in a 4-polish mini set.

Release date unknown.  Polish colors, names, and other details are subject to change.

P.S.  So… Melrose in California, huh?  Darn.  I was hoping they meant Melrose, Montana.  Population 138.  Elevation 5,467 feet.
