New from OPI — Outrageous Neons!

Neons certainly seem to be popular this summer; China Glaze released a set of twelve earlier this month called “Summer Neons,” and Essie released a small set of four called “Poppy Razzi,” that I showed you back in April.

Now OPI has announced “Outrageous Neons,” a set of six mini-bottles, to be released in July.  Price unknown at this time.

The neon colors are Ridiculously Yellow, Formidably Orange, Riotously Pink, and Seriously Purple.  A white polish is included to be used as a base to get intense neon color, and there’s a clear top coat for glossy shine.

I’ve held off on buying any neons this summer because I didn’t want to spend ~$8 a pop on one bottle of a color I probably wouldn’t wear that often.  But I’m a fan of mini-sets; they’re the Whitman’s Samplers of nail polishes.  The tiny handles and brushes can be hard to work with, but one adjusts.

OPI has even made a video to introduce this collection:

The set will be limited edition, so if you want one for yourself or for a gift, check your local OPI salons in July.

New summer neons from Essie!

If you need something bright and sunny to wake you up this morning, feast your eyes on this:

Need another look?

It’s the “Poppy Razzi” collection from Essie.  Read that as “paparazzi.”

The colors are:

  • Lights — fuchsia
  • Camera — coral red
  • Action — tangerine
  • Bazooka — orange

I feel like singing the Sesame Street song about “which of these things doesn’t belong” when it comes to the name “Bazooka.”  What on earth does that have to do with Lights, Camera, Action? Or paparazzi??

At any rate, these are beautiful bright neons.  Essie recommends putting the neon color over an opaque white and finishing off with a clear top coat for maximum brightness and shine, and the display shows those as well.

I’ve only tried one neon polish in the past, a red, and I didn’t like it because it was so sheer and it had a rubbery-looking finish.  Maybe I was doing it wrong — who knew?  I’ll try it again over an opaque white base coat and with a shiny top coat and see if it looks better.

These look like fun colors for summer, for either fingers or toes.  Or both.  My only beef is that several of the colors look very similar to some others that Essie released earlier this spring in the “Navigate Her” collection.

See what I mean?
