Let’s compare: bright dark oranges

Orange is hot, hot, hot this season.  I’m seeing it everywhere in clothing and of course nail polish.  When I received Zoya’s Surf Collection a few weeks ago I wasn’t sure how I’d like Myrta, because it’s more orange than what I’ve worn in the past.

Well, I love it.  Love the foil finish.  Love that it reminds me of a good old-fashioned bottle of Orange Crush!

In my big Earth Day sale order from Zoya I got another color I thought might be similar, Milla.  It’s from the Glitterati Collection which is no longer available as a set.  Some of the other colors from the collection are Bijou and Kiki.

The final appearance of Myrta and Milla are similar but they’re not duplicates and the formulas are very different.  Myrta is an orange foil, packed with smooth gold and silver metallic shimmer, and it was almost a one-coater, but I used two.  Milla is a jelly, a sheer coral-red-orange base with tiny iridescent flakes.  I used three coats of Milla and could still see my nail line, so I think it might be better layered with another polish if you want opaque.  Both polishes applied smoothly and without streaking.

Here are the bottles next to each other, Milla on the left and Myrta on the right:

Here they are in indirect outdoor light with the bottle of Milla.  I have Milla on my index and middle fingers and Myrta on my ring and pinkie fingers.

Outside in direct sunlight with the bottle of Myrta I think the differences are more pronounced.  Milla looks more reddish and shows a lot of pink sparkle.

I really love both for summer.  I think Milla, as a jelly, would be fun to layer with other colors.  If you want a bright dark orange foil, Myrta is the ticket and covers great in just one or two coats.

Oh, and remember Elke, a strawberry red that I swatched a few days ago?  It’s more opaque and metallic than Milla, with more gold sparkle.
